It’s hard to believe that three years have passed since I last uploaded a cover. This blog post is a look back at those videos, the journey and my approach to creating them.

Taeyeon – Blue ‘Vocal Cover’

This was one of my first covers. I had just moved, which explains the empty background. I was so excited to finally be in a safe space of my own.

Being into videography, I experimented with filming and editing, focusing on growth and skill-building. Although I knew I had a lot to learn, I didn’t want to wait until I had all the answers before starting. So, I embraced the learning process. This cover was the first result of that journey. People might see it as just a cover, but there were many elements to consider, such as facial expressions. I had to observe myself, decide how I wanted to lip sync, and be aware of micro-expressions. I feel like I seem very shy and sad in the video. I’m a bit embarrassed that it looks so real, but I was just playing.

APink (에이핑크) – Dumhdurum (덤더럼) ‘Vocal Cover’

In the past, I used to add my own twist to my covers. At this point, I decided to adopt a more K-pop style and stay closer to the original sound.

BVNDIT (밴디트) – DRAMATIC 드라마틱 ‘Vocal Cover’

Enjoying all creative processes, I also immersed myself in the art of mixing and mastering audio. This skill is a discipline of its own. Working in the music industry, I experienced that even some well-known producers struggle to mix vocals with the track effectively, despite their expertise in production and reputation. Mixing is a skill you never fully out learn; there’s always more. At times, it was beneficial to upload only audio so I could focus on studying and improving my craft. This is one of my early mixes, I uploaded it much later than I created it.

JESSI – 어떤X (What Type of X) ‘Vocal Cover’

From webcam to 4K, and serious color grading coming into play. Sometimes I refilmed the cover videos because I didn’t like the first try. Filming on a webcam allowed me to manipulate much more, but with 4K, it’s really difficult to hide anything. My expressions got better over time, though I occasionally malfunctioned.

GFRIEND (여자친구) – MAGO ‘Vocal Cover’

Working with 4K resolution and 50fps was really challenging. I couldn’t see myself on a big screen like before. You can see that I experimented with color grading here. I tried to be a bit more energetic, but I cringe every time I watch this video.
